Safety Rules

Practical safety rules for donor and receiver pickups across Ghana.

Before pickup

  • Use Giving Free messages until you are comfortable sharing additional contact details.
  • Review the user's profile, listing details, and conversation for red flags.
  • Agree on a public pickup area and a clear time.
  • Do not send money, deposits, transport fees, or verification payments.
  • Do not share national ID numbers, financial information, passwords, OTPs, or unnecessary personal details.

During pickup

  • Meet in a public, well-lit location where possible.
  • Tell someone where you are going or bring another adult.
  • Inspect the item before accepting it.
  • Leave immediately if the situation feels unsafe, pressured, or inconsistent with the listing.

After pickup

  • Clean and test items before use.
  • Do not use items that appear unsafe, contaminated, damaged beyond the listing description, or unsuitable for your household.
  • Report safety issues, scams, harassment, or prohibited items to support@givingfree.org.

Emergency situations

If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or appropriate authorities first. Giving Free support cannot provide emergency response.
